The Violent Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team took a wanted probation fugitive into custody Tuesday night after tracking him to a home in Ogden.

Lorenzo Puentes, 37, was on probation for possession of a deadly weapon with intent to assault and was being supervised by the Northern Region Adult Probation and Parole office. A warrant for Puentes’ arrest was issued in October on charges of assault and absconding supervision.

The strike team is headed by the U.S. Marshals Service and includes members of local law enforcement agencies, including agents with Adult Probation and Parole.

Team members approached a house at 1066 28th Street in Ogden at approximately 7:30 p.m. Puentes left the residence and fired at least one shot at officers who had gathered on the side of the home. No officers were hit or injured. Officers did not return fire.

Puentes fled on foot but was apprehended about a block from the residence and was taken into custody. Authorities are reviewing potential charges related to the incident.

An investigation is ongoing.
